From compliance to engagement — powering operator growth and player loyalty worldwide since 2003. ### From Vision to Innovation. Why We Exist. OpenTag was born out of a simple but powerful idea: iGaming technology should empower operators, not limit them. Too many platforms were slow, rigid, and outdated, leaving operators struggling to innovate in an industry that moves faster every day. We set out to change that. Launching an iGaming website today is exciting, but also full of challenges. Operators face constant delays in going live, legacy platforms that block innovation, compliance rules that shift overnight, payment providers that complicate integration, and the pressure to deliver smooth, mobile-first experiences that don’t crash during peak traffic. Add the need for strong retention tools, varied content, and reliable support, and what should be an opportunity quickly becomes a struggle. At OpenTag, we exist to remove those barriers. Our journey began in 2003, when we launched our first online casino. Having lived operator experience ourselves, we know these pain points inside out. In 2019, we officially founded OpenTag, to turn our know-how into a next-generation platform that makes launching and scaling an iGaming business faster, smoother, and more reliable. Our team brings together over two decades of industry expertise, having helped many online operators thrive in some of the most competitive markets in the world. With that knowledge, we’ve built a modern, modular, and compliance-ready platform that delivers quick time-to-market, seamless integrations, local payment support, and a React-powered frontend that keeps players engaged. 0+ years #### Credibility - We’ve lived the challenges of operators first-hand since 2003. - Over 20 years of industry know-how powering smarter solutions. - Built by people who understand compliance, player retention, and operator growth. 0+ #### Operator Challenges - Faster time-to-market: launch in weeks, not months. - Future-ready: no legacy systems holding you back. - Compliance built-in: adapt quickly to regulatory change. 0 #### Technology & People - Microservices architecture for flexibility and adaptability. - React-powered frontends for seamless player journeys. - High-capacity infrastructure built for peak traffic. ### Vision & Mission To remove barriers to launching and growing iGaming brands. #### Vision To set the new global standard for iGaming technology. The folks from Opentag joined our community in October and ever since they’ve been welcoming at least one new member into their team every week! With such fast growth we feel like we just have to share more about them. Let’s start with the easiest part – the introduction! Opentag is a fully backed startup company in the Sports Betting & Gaming industry. To put it simply – they’re building a full betting platform from scratch (how cool is that!?). ### The business idea For well over a decade, Opentag’s team has been thinking about how they can disrupt the old betting market that had been dominated for years by slow-moving mega corporations. Five months ago they closed their full investment and started building a product that will bring the market up to speed with the latest technologies and standards. Their offering is a masterpiece platform that delivers operational excellence for every field of the Sports Betting and Gaming and on all of the different markets where betting is applied. They support their offering by providing fully scaled API for any of their components and also the APIs, Data solutions and Serviceable algorithms are open to any of their clients, which gives total freedom to the clients without damaging the full coverage of the service. ### The tech Technology wise the team has fully invested in a Microservices environment and containerized deployment. They’re working in close partnership with the Google Cloud team and are using a fully decentralized kubernetes deployment (multi cloud). To achieve maximum development speed they’re focused on the different stacks, depending on the office location and the local availability of developers. In Sofia, they’re doing JAVA (Spring and Spring boot), Golang for backend and ReactJS for front end, while in Kiev the stack is NodeJS, PHP (Symfony) and Golang for backend and ReactJS for front end. Rea adds: ‘The actual architecture allows us (within reason) to give greater freedom to each team and unit to choose their internal stack and approach. By doing this we are empowering the teams to take ownership over their modules and their delivery.’ ### Culture As a newly started business, Rea is sharing that a lot of the cultural decisions are coming up from the teams themselves. ‘Some teams prefer a stricter structure with a team lead, some prefer to work on a flat hierarchy. We try to guide them by only applying the minimal frame of work and from there we give full trust and freedom. He also adds that: ‘There are no suits, no protocols, no closed door mentality – we don’t do or need the “seniority card”, we always search for like-minded individuals to join us, Juniors, Middles and Seniors – we have developers that are fresh out of university and we’ve had a developer that is over 60(!). Age or seniority doesn’t play a card, only passion and need for innovation and growth. if we need to sum it all up – we (the management) focuses only on the Macro, we put trust and faith in the people we hire to easily fill in the Micro. We’re happy to welcome Rea and Opentag’s team in the Puzl family! Wishing you a productive and amazing time with us! Veneta Dimitrova, OpenTag: We believe a company’s most valuable asset is its people ### Planning your next launch? Talk to our team and see the OpenTag platform in a live demo. It is an independent laboratory telling the market: this platform does exactly what it claims, every day, under scrutiny. ” Jasmine Yasin Head of Regulatory Compliance & Certification Almost everything about an iGaming platform can be shown in a demo: the games, the dashboards, the bonus flows. The one thing a demo can never show is whether the system behaves correctly when nobody is watching. That is exactly what GLI-19 certification exists to prove. I lead regulatory compliance and certification at OpenTag, our platform is GLI-19 certified, and I want to explain what that certificate actually says, and why it should matter to anyone choosing the technology their business will run on. ### What GLI-19 actually is Gaming Laboratories International is the independent testing laboratory the gaming industry has trusted for more than three decades, and its technical standards are referenced by regulators around the world. GLI-19, the Standards for Interactive Gaming Systems, is the one that applies to online gaming platforms like ours. GLI-19 examines the parts of a platform that players never see and operators depend on every minute. Game fairness and randomness. Player account management: registration, verification, session handling, limits and self-exclusion. Wallet and transaction integrity, so that every deposit, wager, win and withdrawal is accounted for, in order, exactly once. Audit logging detailed enough that a regulator can reconstruct any event after the fact. Information security, change control and recovery when something goes wrong. None of that is paperwork. Certification means handing your live system to an independent laboratory, letting its engineers try to break your assumptions, and providing evidence for every control you claim to have. ### Why an independent certificate carries so much trust Any vendor can say “we are compliant.” A certificate means someone whose reputation depends on impartiality has tested that claim and signed their name under it. That is why regulators lean on GLI standards when they license and audit operators: it gives them a common, rigorous benchmark instead of a hundred vendor promises. And it is why the certificate matters commercially, not just legally. When your regulator, your auditor or your payment partner asks how the platform handles player funds, the strongest answer in the industry is not “the vendor assures us.” It is “an accredited laboratory verified it.” For an operator, a certified platform is a head start. With GLI-19 certification, you build on a platform that has already undergone independent technical assessment, rather than starting from zero. ### Certification is a discipline, not a stamp Here is the part I care about most, because it is the part that is easiest to get wrong. Certification is not a stamp you collect. It is an independent laboratory telling the market: this platform does exactly what it claims, every day, under scrutiny. A platform ships new releases constantly. The certified system must remain the certified system, which means disciplined change control, regression evidence and honest reporting, release after release. The real test of a certified platform is not its first audit; it is its fortieth deployment after the audit. That discipline changes how a company engineers. Compliance stops being a gate at the end of a project and becomes an input to design. In my experience, that is the single biggest cultural difference between platforms that hold certification comfortably and platforms that scramble before every review. ### How we approached it at OpenTag We built for certification before we pursued it. Our iGaming platform treats the behaviours GLI-19 tests, from wallet integrity to account controls to audit trails, as core architecture rather than features added for an auditor. Our online casino vertical brings together more than a hundred game studios, and every game round, transaction and manual adjustment stays visible and traceable in the Command Centre back office. When the laboratory came to test, our job was not to prepare a special version of the system. It was to show the system as it runs. That is what I mean when I say the certificate reflects how a platform lives, not how it performs on inspection day. ### What this means for you If you are an operator, GLI-19 certification shortens your path in three concrete ways: licensing conversations move faster because regulators recognise the benchmark, audits hold fewer surprises because the evidence already exists, and the trust you offer players stands on verification rather than assertion. Trust compounds. Every certified control is a question you will never have to answer alone in front of a regulator. Sports betting has its own standard, GLI-33, with challenges all of its own: live odds, settlement, risk. I will cover it in a companion article on GLI-33 certification for sports betting. And if you want to see what a compliance-first platform looks like in practice, we are always happy to show you, not in a slide deck but in the running system. ### Going into a regulated market? Payments are where product promises meet local reality, and nowhere is that more true than in South Africa. Over the past six months we have shipped release after release focused on one goal: a payment experience that feels native to South African players, not translated for them. Here is what that stack looks like today, and the thinking behind it. ### Meeting players on the rails they already use South African players do not deposit one way. Some reach for a card. Some live inside their banking app. Many buy a voucher at a till with cash. A payment stack that only covers one of those behaviours quietly filters out everyone else. That is why our iGaming platform now runs a broad, locally-tuned set of methods side by side. Through our Stitch integration, players can deposit with cards, digital wallets including Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, Pay by Bank, and the standalone Capitec Pay and Absa Pay flows. These are the channels South African players already trust for everyday spending. Samsung Pay deposits use encrypted on-device payment data, keeping the checkout both fast and secure. ### Vouchers as a first-class citizen In many markets vouchers are an afterthought. In South Africa they are a primary deposit rail, so we treat them like one. BluVoucher deposits now run through a direct integration rather than a gateway, removing steps from the player journey and giving us full control over the flow. The Flash integration supports 1Voucher, Flash Exclusive Vouchers and FNB Vouchers through the same simple 16-digit PIN redemption players already know. And when a voucher fails, invalid or already redeemed, players now see a clear, specific, translatable message instead of a generic technical error. Fewer confused players, fewer support tickets. ### Closing the loop on cards A deposit method that cannot pay you back is half a product. With the Strafin card integration, deposits and withdrawals run through the same provider with card tokenization: a true closed loop where money returns to the card it came from. Alongside it, providers like Safeway and Finera cover both deposits and withdrawals, and Ozow transactions now store the masked account number as the payment instrument, keeping payment records accurate and consistent across the platform. ### The details that make it feel native Localization is not a language file. It is a hundred small decisions. We replaced the term “Fiat” with “ZAR” in the cashier because players should never have to decode financial jargon to see their own currency. Deposit entry points are clearly labelled. And identity, sanctions and bank account verification for the South African market run through a unified FraudCheck flow, so compliance happens consistently behind the scenes. It is the same discipline that stands behind our GLI-19 and GLI-33 certifications. Every one of these changes shipped through our regular release cycle. You can trace them version by version in our public release notes. ### What this means for operators If you are entering South Africa, the payment stack is not a checklist item. It is the difference between a player who deposits and a player who leaves. Running on OpenTag means the local rails, the voucher flows, the closed loops and the compliance checks are already built, tested and live on real brands. My colleague Ivaylo wrote about how we automate casino lobby curation with the same philosophy: build the machinery once, so operators can focus on strategy. Payments are no different. ### Launching in South Africa? Get a payment stack that already speaks ZAR: cards, wallets, vouchers and instant EFT, live from day one. Talk to our team. The algorithm watches every game, every day. Your team sets the strategy once. ” Ivaylo Pandurski Product Manager Sport & Casino A casino lobby is a shop window that has to change every day. Players notice a stale lobby faster than operators do. And with thousands of games from a hundred studios, keeping it fresh by hand is a full-time job nobody should have. That is why we have spent recent releases teaching the lobby to curate itself. Here is how automated lobby curation works in our online casino today, and what it replaces. ### Hot Games: a category that finds its own content The flagship of this work is the “Hot Games” automated category. Every 24 hours, a proprietary algorithm looks at the number of active users each game attracted over the previous 14 days, picks the top performers, and publishes them to the lobby, with no manual intervention. The configuration is where it gets genuinely useful. Operators choose how many games the category holds, and can tell the algorithm to skip the first X titles. If everyone on your brand already knows your top game and it has a permanent home elsewhere, skip it and give the space to games players have not discovered yet. One brand can run “Top 10” (ten games, skip none) next to “Hidden Gems” (fifty games, skip the first hundred). Both fully automatic, both configured once. ### New Games that manage themselves The “New Games” category works the same way: it takes the configured number of games with the most recent release dates and refreshes automatically every 24 hours as new titles land in the repository. Newly integrated games appear without anyone remembering to add them, and the ordering reshuffles daily so the category never looks frozen. For every other category, admins can now choose automatic ordering by GGR, ascending or descending, instead of maintaining manual order. Manual stays the default; automation is there when you want it. ### Signals players actually see Automation runs the inventory; presentation closes the click. Administrators can assign ribbons to chosen games, in any colour and with any text, managed from a central pool. Games tagged as Jackpot get a predefined Jackpot label automatically. It is a small feature with a direct job: lift click-through on the games you want played. Behind the scenes, the game repository has been rebuilt for speed: thumbnails visible directly in the table, enable/disable and Free Spins toggles inline, a cleaner create/edit flow, and provider ordering controlled from the same place. The provider widget gained an all-providers drawer so players can jump straight to any studio’s page. ### A catalogue that keeps growing Lobby automation matters more as the catalogue grows. And it keeps growing. Recent releases added Light & Wonder as a casino provider, with Free Spins support, and Alea as a casino aggregator, alongside the hundred-plus studios already integrated in our online casino. On desktop, games now open in full screen with the platform header on top, keeping wallet and navigation one click away. All of it is configured from the Command Centre back office, and every change above shipped through our public release cycle; the details are version by version in our release notes. ### Set the strategy, skip the chores None of this removes the operator from curating the lobby. It removes the chores. Your team decides what “hot” means for your brand, which games deserve ribbons, where categories sit on the page. The platform does the daily grind of keeping it true. For the same philosophy applied to money movement, read my colleague Eran on our South African payment stack. And if you want the lobby working like this on your brand, our team will happily show it live on our iGaming platform. ### Want your lobby to run itself? It should speak their language, literally, and never make them guess who can do what. ” Victoria Genova Senior Product Owner Players judge a platform by its front end. Operators live in its back office. CUBE, the operator side of our platform, is where promotions get built, withdrawals get approved, reports get read and players get managed, eight hours a day, every day. That is why CUBE gets the same product attention as anything player-facing. Over the last six months of releases it has learned new languages, rebuilt its permission system, and grown real-time reporting. Here is the tour. ### A back office that speaks Spanish and Portuguese CUBE is now multilingual. Admins can switch the entire Back Office to Spanish or Portuguese from their profile, alongside English. If your operations team sits in Bogotá or São Paulo, they work in their own language: menus, modules, everyday navigation. For a platform active across Latin America and Africa, this is not cosmetic. Training gets faster, mistakes get rarer, and hiring stops being constrained by English fluency. It is the back-office counterpart of what we already do player-side, where registration pages adapt to the player’s browser language automatically. ### Who can do what, finally obvious Permissions are where back offices quietly rot: roles accumulate, nobody remembers what “Promo Editor” can actually touch, and audits take days. We rebuilt the Roles & Permissions module around visibility. Permissions are grouped into collapsible sections with human-readable names and contextual tooltips. Roles can be created directly from the page, assigned during user creation instead of afterwards, and a role filter in user management answers “who has this role?” in one click. Granularity grew with it. A dedicated PROCESS_WITHDRAWALS permission controls who can complete or void withdrawal requests. Access to sensitive report sections and the social feed is individually permissioned. This is operational hygiene, but it is also compliance: clean role separation is exactly what auditors and regulators expect from a certified platform. It is the same thinking behind our GLI-19 certification. ### Numbers without asking anyone Dashboard Reports bring the core KPIs into one view: registrations, FTDs, deposits, withdrawals, GGR, turnover and loyalty spend, with interactive charts, brand and period filters, and predefined ranges from “last 7 days” to full custom spans. GGR and turnover split into Total, Casino and Sport tabs; every figure displays in the selected brand’s currency; the loyalty section itemises free spins and free bets given and spent, with a data-freshness timestamp so nobody argues about how current the numbers are. Less reliance on manual report requests means decisions happen where the work happens. ### A hundred small frictions removed The rest of the story is detail work, which is where back offices live or die. Time zones prepopulate from the selected brand across promotions, leaderboards, missions and rewards. Account expiration times display in the configured CUBE time zone instead of GMT. Self-exclusion supports custom end dates. Image uploads show recommended dimensions for every placement, and banners can opt into high-resolution handling with no compression. Even logging in got smarter: CUBE now returns you to the page you were actually trying to open. Each of these shipped through our public release cycle; the full history is in our release notes, and the product overview lives on the Command Centre page. ### Why we invest here An operator’s margin is made or lost in operations. Every minute your team does not spend fighting the back office is a minute spent on players, promotions and growth. That is the standard CUBE is built to, and we would much rather show it than describe it. For how the same product thinking plays out player-side, read Ivaylo on casino lobby automation and Eran on payments for South Africa. ### Ready to see CUBE in action? They just leave. Our job is to remove the reasons before anyone has to name them. ” Elena Blazheniuk Team Lead Designer Nobody churns because of one bad screen. Players leave over an accumulation of small confusions: a balance they can't read, a button they don't trust, an error that explains nothing. Conversion lives and dies in those details. Design at OpenTag is the discipline of finding those details and removing them, release after release. Here are the ones we've shipped recently, and the thinking behind each. ### A wallet players can actually read The wallet used to split balances across tabs. Accurate, but a puzzle. We replaced it with a single unified screen: total available balance on top, and every balance beneath it, real money, sports bonus, casino bonus, mixed bonus, free bets and free spins, visible together and logically separated. A player should know what they have in one glance, because a player who understands their balance deposits with confidence. The same principle reached the cashier. The ambiguous ”+” icon became a clearly labelled Deposit button, currency is named “ZAR” instead of the jargon “Fiat” for our South African players, and balances everywhere follow one standard format. None of these is a feature; each is a removed hesitation. ### Onboarding without ambush We removed the automatic cashier pop-up that used to appear the moment registration finished. It felt efficient; it read as pressure. New players now land in the product, look around, and reach the deposit screen when they choose to. Which, it turns out, is how trust is built. Registration itself meets players in their own language: on mobile, the page follows the browser language automatically, including Arabic, with English as the fallback and a manual selector always in reach. First impressions should not require translation. ### Errors that respect the player A failed voucher deposit used to produce a generic technical error, the single most frustrating message in gaming. Now the player sees exactly what happened, in their language: the voucher is invalid, or already redeemed. A clear error is the difference between a retry and a support ticket, and often between a retry and a churn. ### Play, uninterrupted On desktop, casino games now open in full screen with the platform header on top: immersion without losing the wallet and navigation. Games tagged for attention carry ribbons in the brand’s own colours. And the catalogue behind it stays fresh automatically, which is a design concern too: my colleague Ivaylo covers that machinery in Casino Merchandising on Autopilot. ### Communication that feels personal Transactional emails now greet players by name through dynamic placeholders, and Smartico Web Push notifications reach players in the browser, with navigation items that deep-link straight into missions, tournaments or the inbox. Engagement tooling only works when it feels like communication rather than broadcast, and these details are what make the difference. Every improvement here shipped through our public release cycle; the full history, feature by feature, is in our release notes. The product surface it all lives on is our iGaming platform. ### Details are the product There is no single feature called “conversion.” There is a hundred-item checklist of moments where a player either keeps moving or stops, and a design team’s job is to keep shortening that list. For how the same obsession plays out where the money moves, read Eran on payments built for South Africa; for the operator’s side of the screen, Victoria’s tour of CUBE. ### Want a front end that converts?
